A question about the aesthetics of women's shoes?

What is the problem of having the top of the roof open in the shoes of many women then? I'm a guy, it does not really affect me, but I see no difference between men's shoes (completely covered except for the sandals) and women's shoes (With all types of belts, open spaces, and involved so) So really, what's the deal? Where to start, what was the idea behind this?
