Sandals Royal Hicacos, Varadero for Honeymoon??

We’ve booked our Honeymoon for mid-september at Sandals Royal Hicacos couples only resort. I’ve read some very mixed reviews online about this place and am looking for some re-assurance??
I know that this is a 5 star resort by Cuban standards which is probably considered a 4 star in other areas of the Carribean… I’ve only been to Jamaica, to a 5 star Riu and am concerned that this will be a downgrade. Has anyone been to this resort recentley that can shed some light on what it’s really like? We aren’t very picky people and I know that you don’t go to Cuba for the food… but any insight would be appreciated!

I know the Carribean like my right hand. If you have been to Riu in Jamaica then I think you will be very disappointed with Sandals Royal Hicacos. It is more like a 2 star by any standards. Sorry for no reassurance. Find another travel agent. There are some solid “couples only” resorts just waiting for you two love birds.
