What should I do about my future mother-in-law causing problems with the wedding plans?
My fiance and I wanted a small wedding of 40 people, just the immediate family. At the begining, my future m.i.f. said we could have our wedding how we wanted. Then she said that her sisters would be upset if they weren’t invited. Well, me and my fiance have decided that we are going to get married at the Sandals resort in the Bahamas and show the video at a reception when we got back. So we’d have the wedding we wanted without anyone’s input. Well, my fiance told his mom last night. She started crying and got mad and said she wouldn’t come to the reception. Now my fiance is upset b/c he hurt his mother and wants to have a small ceremony before we go to the Bahamas to get married. I was fine with that idea last night. Now I think well if we do that why not just have the wedding we wanted to begin with and not worry about doing it in the Bahamas. My mom is fine with what was planned, so why can’t my future m.i.f. realize it’s MY wedding?! I’m afraid I’m going to end up hating her!!!
This happened with my niece also, only it was her mother (my sister) They went on and had their ceremony without her at a resort in Jamaica and had the wedding they wanted. They then had a reception when they got back home. They showed the video of their wedding and my sister turned her back to the screen and refused to watch it. She has now missed both the original wedding and the video and guess who looks like a fool? HER, not her daughter or her husband. Stick to your ideas and don’t let her get you down.
